Marilee Hall

Marilee Sypolt Hall, 74, of Arthurdale, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

The daughter of Jessie and George Sypolt, she was born on Sept. 6, 1947, in Howesville. Marilee was a graduate of Kingwood High School Class of 1964 and received a master’s degree from West Virginia University.

Marilee was deeply involved with her community and was always willing to step forward and help out. She had the ability to see a need, make a plan to take care of it, and inspire others to join her.
Marilee was a retired Preston County teacher. She spent her career in Valley District and was instrumental in starting a school Service Club. It allowed children to discover that they could help others in their community, and it is still active today.

Marilee was a founding member of Arthurdale Heritage Inc. (AHI) when it began in 1984. She wrote the newsletter for over 20 years, was an active board member who served where needed and always worked at events. In 2004, she was AHI’s Volunteer of the Year and in 2009 was named a West Virginia History Hero. She said, “The heritage of my community is special, and I am glad I have played a part in keeping it special for future generations.”

As an animal lover, Marilee was a committed member of the Preston County Humane Society. She also belonged to VFW Auxiliary Post 1589, Friends of the Cheat and Friends of Deckers Creek.
Marilee is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, David; her two cats, Bobbie and Blackee Pearl; her mother, Jessie Sypolt, of Arthurdale; brother, George “Buzz” and Sharon Sypolt, of Hurricane; sister, Tracie Sypolt, of Arthurdale; friend, Sherry Poland, of Tunnelton; and several nieces and nephews. Her father, George Sypolt Sr., preceded her in death. She is also survived by her longtime friend, Shirley Nestor Nickerson. Shirley grew up next door to Marilee and introduced her to her husband, Dave.

Donations in her memory may be made to Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. or the Preston County Humane Society Spay and Neuter Fund.

Friends may call at the Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, and from 1-2 p.m., the time of funeral services, on April 21, with the Rev. Steven E. Lightner officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthurdale Cemetery. She will be missed by many.
