MASONTOWN — Masontown will clean the winter mess from its streets itself rather than contracting the work out.
According to figures presented to the town council by Mayor James Cottrell, it will be about $800 cheaper to have the town’s maintenance worker, Danny Luzier, rent the needed equipment from MPE and do the work.
The work will include blowing off salt, dirt and cinders from sidewalks and sweeping it up from the street. It should begin around the start of May.
Cottrell also informed council the town’s Easter Egg Hunt on April 10 went well despite the cold weather. Lance Sisler, inside the Easter Bunny suit, was likely the only warm one out there, he said.
“And I do thank Lance for being the Easter Bunny, he did a fantastic job and the kids loved it,” Cottrell said.
Sisler told The Dominion Post his niece went to the egg hunt and he played the role of Easter Bunny for the kids, not recognition.
Charlotte and Miah Brown were also thanked for donating the eggs, chips, candy, stuffed bears and the bunny suit. Richie Nolan, of Mountain Hare Scramble, also donated Easter eggs.
In other town business:
– Council voted to buy a backpack gas-powered leaf blower for $569 and an air compressor for no more than $350.
– Cottrell told council a new business — a music shop — is coming to town in the next few months and the employees will teach music.
– The town will reimburse its municipal clerk, Donna Montgomery, for any cost associated with becoming a notary.
