Bettie B. McBee, 92, of Newburg, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Stonerise in Kingwood. She was born on Sept. 9, 1929, in Steyer Md., daughter of the late Trevor and Sarah “Shoemaker” Shackleford. Bettie graduated from Arthurdale High School, Class of 1947. She retired from Piper Aircraft in Lakeland, Fla. Bettie loved reading, quilting and her cats. She was Baptist by faith.
Bettie is survived by one daughter, Regina Ann Harris and Jim, of Newburg; one son, David Hibbs and Debbie, of York Run; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hibbs, of Independence; seven grandchildren, James “Jay” Harris and Zona, of Clifton Mills, Danny J. Harris, of Newburg, Kim Woods and David, of Independence, C.W. Hibbs, of Independence, Meegan Cordero, of Newburg, Robert Hibbs and Heather, of Norfolk, Va., and Matthew Hibbs and Mary, of Kingwood; 15 great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Isabella, Gasellia, Anabella, Kaitlyn, Ezra, Cullen, Maggie, Zane, Henry, Ethan, James “J.C,” Tim, Nathan and Jake; one great-great-grandchild, Lilly; one brother, Levi Shackleford, of Ridgewater, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bettie was preceded in death by one son, William “Bill” Earl Hibbs in 2019; two brothers, Brown Shackleford and Bill Shackleford; three sisters, Martha Beazell, Mary Ann Sonier and Sarah Titus Harvey.
Family and friends will be received at the Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 21, with Pastor Terry Wilt officiating. Interment will follow at the Damon Cemetery.
