Lonnie Ray Woody, 86, of Nicholson Loop, Morgantown, passed away Sunday morning, March 6, 2022. He was born July 29, 1935.
Pap was a proud U.S. Army veteran and served from 1958-1964. While enlisted, Pap was stationed in Germany and Korea.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Nellie Woody; his wife, Mary Woody; his son, Leroy Boyers; five sisters; and three brothers.
Pap is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Nicholson, with whom he made his home; his two sons, James and Darrell; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice, especially Pap’s nurses Molly, Sara, and Rebecca for their love and care.
Friends may join the family to honor Pap’s life and legacy at Nicholson Chapel Church, 1326 Summers School Road, Morgantown, from 3-11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, and from 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, until the time of the funeral service at
1 p.m., co-officiated by the Rev. Elmer “Scoop” Nicholson and Pastor Donna Dalton. Following the funeral service, Pap will be laid to rest with his wife in the Davis Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded.
