
Shirley Anne (Barlow) McGinnis, 74, Rockport, Ind., passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Stonerise in Kingwood.
She was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Morgantown, to Hilma (Dixon) Barlow, of Kingwood, and the late James Dale Barlow.
Shirley was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Parish in Rockport, Ind. She married her high school sweetheart, whom she was married to for 47 years. She was a proud Air Force wife as she traveled with her husband and family across the globe for nearly 30 years. She was a stay-at-home mom who was always actively involved in her child’s schools. She was involved with the Officer’s Wives Clubs throughout her husband’s career in the Air Force. She loved to read and travel to the Gulf Coast to visit her beloved grandson. She was an avid art collector of her grandson’s artwork. She was a member or St. Mary’s Warrick Auxiliary until she began to valiantly fight cancer.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sons; Stephen and Scott McGinnis, of Rockport, Ind. and Ryan McGinnis, stationed in Yorkshire, England; daughter, Kara Sparks and her husband Shawn, of Ocean Springs Miss.; brother, David and wife Daphne Barlow, of Reedsville, two sisters-in-law, Carol Barlow, of Westover and Joan Toler, of Ripley; her grandson, who was her very special pride and joy, Evan Sparks, of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Lloyd Patrick McGinnis; two brothers, Tim Barlow, and Mark Barlow; a brother-in-law, Sherman Toler.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St., from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 322 E. Main Street, Kingwood, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, with the Rev. Father Charles McGinnis as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
