Police: WVU safety Saint McLeod stabbed in downtown Morgantown following verbal altercation

MORGANTOWN — According to the Morgantown Police Department, WVU sophomore safety Saint McLeod was involved in an altercation early Saturday morning outside of The Bank on High Street, resulting in McLeod being stabbed and suffering “severe lacerations to his back and stomach,” requiring surgery.

At about 1:17 a.m. Saturday, police were alerted to the altercation, which began as a “verbal disagreement” inside The Bank before moving outside onto the sidewalk. The incident was reported by the person who took McLeod, 20, to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Police responded to the hospital and High Street, where officers on High Street determined the male suspect fled on foot wearing a grey “puffy jacket” prior to arrival.

McLeod, of Philadelphia, is recovering from surgery.

As a true freshman in 2021, McLeod became an important factor toward the end of the season at spear safety. He played in eight games, including the final five, finishing with 21 tackles and two forced fumbles.

McLeod will likely factor in as one of the starting safeties for next season.

“There is still an active investigation going on and we are unable to comment,” a spokesperson with the WVU athletic department told The Dominion Post.

Morgantown Police Detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Detective Division at 304-284-7454, or to leave an anonymous tip, call 304-284-7520.
