MORGANTOWN – Here is a look at some of the bills introduced Monday, Feb. 7. Local sponsors and cosponsors, if any, are noted.

SB 587, to create a tip line to the governor’s office for when parents or students observe the teaching of Critical Race Theory in West Virginia public schools. “The tip line is intended for parents to send in any instances where they feel that their fundamental rights are being violated, where their children are not being respected and where there are inherently divisive practices being taught in schools.”

SB 591, to clarify and modify the process for filling vacancies in the Legislature; to clarify the process for filling a vacancy if the member was elected to a multicounty senatorial or delegate district; and to authorize the county executive committee of single-county senatorial or delegate district to fill vacancies.

HB 4557, to create a credit against the severance tax to encourage private companies to make infrastructure improvements to highways, roads and bridges in this state.

HB 4561, to create a solar facility subscription service where subscribers can purchase an interest in a solar facility and use credits against their electric utility costs. Delegate Evan Hansen, D-Monongalia, sponsor.

HB 4566, to create the Economic Enhancement Grant Fund with the West Virginia Water Development Authority and authorize the Water Development Authority to make grants to cover all or a portion of the costs of water, sewer, economic development and tourism projects.

HB 4569, to establish the crime of obstructing access to medical facilities. Delegate Danielle Walker, D-Monongalia, lead sponsor; Delegates Joey Garcia, D-Marion, Dave Pethtel, D-Wetzel, co-sponsors.

HJR 106, to remove the requirement that elections for local school board members be without reference to political party affiliation.
