Roy William Mullenax, 94, of Windy Acres Lane, Horse Shoe Run, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, surrounded by his wife and children. Born Dec. 10, 1927, in Sugarlands, Roy was the son of the late William Carter and Cora Ethel (Knotts) Mullenax, of Sugarlands. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Lea Gillespie; a grandson, Trinity Scott Gillespie, a great-grandson, Rylee David Friend; son-in-law, Mike Filsinger; brothers, Homer, Lawrence, John and Ray; and sisters, Ellen Stewart and Leota Fultz.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Rose Marie (Bohon) Mullenax; daughters, Lona Filsinger, of Swanton, Md., and Debra Wagner (Larry) and Trish Rumer (Dave), both of Oakland, Md.; and son, Roy Wayne Mullenax (Melissa), of Horse Shoe Run. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie, Lorrie and Carrie Filsinger, Leslie, Brandon and Joshua Peck, Phillip Rumer and Heather and Kelsey Mullenax; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Evan Swiger, Jarrett, Jett, Jaxxton and Jaggar Miller, Rebecca and Rachel Peck, Liam and Kinsley Rumer and Mylan and Mia Matlick. He has one surviving sibling, Jean Toothman, of Shinnston, and his most loved cat, Peek-a-boo.

In 1956, Roy and Marie purchased their farm, where he worked the farm with a team of horses for over 10 years before upgrading to a Case tractor, which he was so proud of. He also milked cows by hand, along with his little sidekick, Jan, for many years. Along with farming, he began working in the woods at age 16 for Cecil Evans. From there he went to Sam Frazee’s sawmill and retired from Coastal Lumber with over 40 years of service in 1991.

After retirement, he found great pleasure in attending the sale at the Terra Alta Stockyard. He was always buying and selling and enjoying the time being spent with the “old timers.” He also liked going into Sugarlands to check on the cattle he had grazing there. He will be remembered as a hardworking, honest man.
