Robert E. Bishop Sr., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at Sundale Nursing Home, where he lived for the last three years. Bob was born in Morgantown on July 29, 1926, the son of Frank and Mable Bishop.
He married Betty J. Taylor in 1945, and they celebrated their 76th anniversary this year.
Bob was an Army veteran who served in World War II in the Philippines. After serving in the Army, he returned to Morgantown and began a long civilian career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as the Lockmaster of Opekiska Lock and Dam in 1986. He was a farmer, a long-standing member of the Monongalia County Farm Bureau and enjoyed raising cattle, going to farm equipment auctions, family camping, sightseeing trips, boating and gospel music.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Joe, Harold, Bernard and Roger. He is survived by his wife, Betty; their three sons, Robert Jr. (Dorothy), Donald (Donna) and David (Rebecca); and his sister, Jean Cowell, of Greensburg Pa. Bob had five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, with Pastor Rich Schimansky
officiating.
