William Arnold Newhouse, 78, of Rivesville, passed away on Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, at his residence. He was born Dec. 6, 1943, in Morgantown, a son of the late William and Iva June Flowers Newhouse. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Hope Gilbert Newhouse.
Mr. Newhouse was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School, and attended West Virginia University. He had attended the Trinity Assembly of God in Fairmont for many years. He retired with Consol Coal Company as a coal miner, and later worked with Fairmont General Hospital, as well as the Marion County Board of Education.
Bill had served on the Rivesville Town Council. He had been a long-time local referee for both high school and POP Warner football, as well as a Little League baseball coach. Bill was a sports fan, especially a huge fan for both Mountaineer football and basketball. But, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren whom he helped raise.
Mr. Newhouse is survived by his daughters, Tammy Newhouse, of Rivesville, Angie and her husband Tom Taralla, of Rivesville, Michelle Walters, of Fairmont, and Tiffany and her husband Steve Carter, of Waynesboro, Va.; his five grandchildren, Jessica Walters, of Eugene, Ore., Anthony Walters, of Rivesville, Roman Walters, of Rivesville, Grant Carter, of Waynesboro, Va., and Bennett Carter, of Waynesboro, Va.; and one niece, one nephew and several cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Newhouse, and his son-in-law, Alex Walters.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second St., Rivesville, WV 26588. Family and friends may visit the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, and from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30. The funeral will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Skip Vincent officiating. Interment will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
