Earline Tate

Earline Tate, 96, of Osage, passed away early Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Idamay, Marion County, on Jan. 3, 1925, a daughter of the late Randall and Hattie Jefferson Campbell.

Earline is survived by two daughters, June Carolyn Jones, of Texas, and Mary Scott, of Fairmont; siblings, Louise Sistrunk, of Fairmont, Dolores Kelly, of Maryland, and Bertha Sistrunk, of Fairmont; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Shirley Cottingham, Valerie Harris and Randy Jefferson.

In addition to her parents, Earline was preceded in death by her husband Matthew Tate; a son, Willie Campbell; and siblings, Mamie, Dorothy, Raymond, Randy, Bernice, Arthur, Albert and Robert.

Earline was a fixture in Osage for decades. She enjoyed hosting cook-outs for her friends and neighbors and gathering with them on her front porch to catch-up on the happenings around them. She loved playing bingo and attended the Jesus Mission Church in Osage.

She was formerly employed as a cook at the Monongalia County Jail and Scotts Run Settlement House. Earline also gave her time for many years at Christian Help, where she was loved by everyone.

Friends may join the family to honor Earline’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the homegoing service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, officiated by the Rev. Gwendolyn McKinney. Following the funeral service, Earline will be laid to rest with her husband at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown.

The family respectfully requests that all in attendance wear face coverings and practice social distancing.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the WVU Medicine Hospice and all the nurses on the 7th floor west wing for taking such good care of her and to the staff at Madison Nursing Home for their care and compassion.
