Pete Luci Sr., 90, of Lyndhurst, Ohio, was born in Bretz, on April 30, 1931, the loving son of the late Luigi and Concetta (nee Lattanzi) Luci, who both crossing the Atlantic at a young age from the village of Commune Di Accumoli located Northeast of Rome, Italy.
Pete was a gifted athlete, playing basketball in Morgantown High School and with friends after school.
He married his beautiful childhood sweetheart, the love of his life, Oma (nee Friend), who preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1986, and he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sally (nee Hudik).
Pete and Oma were married for 36 years proudly raising their family. Pete was a devoted and loving father of three children, grandfather of four, great-grandfather of three, stepfather of four, step-grandfather of six and beloved uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Pete was the youngest of his siblings and is survived by his treasured 96 year old sister, Olga (Luci) D’Amico, of Morgantown. His five cherished brothers preceded him in death: Sam, Jack, Iglo, Dominic (who resided in Ohio) and Orlando. He loved visiting his family in Morgantown and enjoyed his sister’s big family dinners (including homemade Italian Easter bread, pasta, ravioli, lemonade cake and Christmas cookies) and sitting on her porch where the family waved at passing neighbors and friends who were invited to come up and visit.
Pete’s Spirit passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Dec. 12, 2021.
Pap adored and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and bragged to everyone about how he was blessed to have them in his life and was proud of who they were becoming. They filled his heart daily with love and joy.
Pete moved to Cleveland in 1952 with his growing family. The next day he started at Fisher Body and retired in 1985. Pete’s automotive career with General Motors was fulfilling, and he continued to treasure his friendships with his buddies long after retiring, enjoying an occasional one-tank trip to Pennsylvania or New York. He loved driving around town in his variety of GM cars matching his mood and the weather of the day and was fascinated with bird watching from the deck he built. Pete loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed planting a garden. His tomatoes (home grown from seed) were juicy and delicious, and he could not wait for summer to arrive to start tilling the soil.
He tackled and mastered everything and was an avid craftsman, mechanic, builder, gardner and landscaper. Pete was a man who actually could do it all. He will be deeply missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have wanted to spend time with this kind-hearted, loyal and upstanding man, husband, dad, stepdad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, godfather, uncle and friend.
He will always be remembered whistling as he went about his chores in the house and yard that brought him so much pride and pleasure. Pete and his brothers had a flair for making people laugh, and when more than one of the Luci brothers were together, you would need to get ready to ache with laughter.
A private celebration of life will take place at a later date in 2022. Family will be notified of the burial that will take place at East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown, in the spring of 2022.
