Catherine Virginia Ackerman Christopher, 91, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at Madison Center. Catherine was born in Morgantown on Dec. 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Joseph Ackerman and Faye Fansler Ackerman.
Catherine worked as a teacher’s aide for many years. She was a lifelong member of Suncrest United Methodist Church, where she was active as chairman of the Hartley Circle and volunteered for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother, who loved her family very much and will be greatly missed.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Karen Mitchell (Craig Lingon), of Ostrander, Ohio; sons, Gary Christopher (Lisa), of Atlanta, and Alan Christopher (Sheryl), of Fayetteville, N.C.; sister, Maxine Wade (Ronald); brother, James Ackerman (Betty); grandchildren, Kathleen, Christopher, Jon, Brad, Ryan, Erin and Corey; and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Evie, Kira, Callan and Iris.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, William Eldon Christopher.
An intimate family service will be held at Mt. Union Cemetery, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 with Pastor Mike Estep officiating. A celebration of life service will be scheduled in the late spring at Suncrest UMC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Meals on Wheels or the Scotts Run Settlement House Feeding Children — Backpack Feeding Program.
