Robert Dittmar

Robert Lee Dittmar Jr., 58, of Independence, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021. He was born in Ravenswood, on Dec. 31, 1962, the son of Mary Carolyn Pondek Dittmar, of Ravenswood, and the late Robert Lee Dittmar Sr.

Robb graduated from Ravenswood High School, Class of 1981, and received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1986. After 25-plus years in the corporate world, Robb found his passion working at the Mountaineer Challenge Academy (MCA); first as Job Challenge’s very first program manager, then as MCA-North’s deputy director. It was the toughest job he ever loved.

He enjoyed hunting and buggy rides through the hills of West Virginia and was devoted to trout fishing and WVU Mountaineer football and basketball. For this true mountaineer who, with a smile, left a piece of his heart with everyone he met, trusting God, doing good and helping others is what mattered most. He lived it every day.
In addition to his mother, Robb is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Anne Brown Dittmar; two ornery pups, Wiley and Reagan; one sister, Demi Gaster and husband Dean, of Dunn, N.C.; one niece, Kati Nesselroade Harper and husband Chris, of Ravenswood; and father-in-law, Andrew Hampton Brown Jr. and partner Maxine Anderson, of Pasadena, Md.

Funeral services, in Ravenswood, and a celebration of Robb’s life, in Independence, will be held at a later date. Bolyard Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation and is honored to serve the Dittmar family.

In lieu of flowers and in Robb’s memory, please consider a donation to the WV National Guard Foundation 1703 Coonskin Drive, Charleston, WV 25311 or to the Project Healing Waters program in West Virginia (https://projecthealingwaters.org/programs/locations/west-virginia/).
