TULSA, Okla. — West Virginia finally found a way to slide a shot past Tulsa goal keeper Alex Lopez in the second overtime Saturday, and the 11th-seeded Mountaineers advanced to the fourth round of the NCAA tournament with a 1-0 victory against No. 6 seed Tulsa.
After watching Lopez record four saves through regulation and a first overtime period, WVU midfielder Otto Ollikainen took in a pass and knocked it past Lopez in the 102nd minute for the winning goal.
WVU (12-3-5) recorded seven shots on goal and 10 shots overall, while Tulsa (16-2-1) was held to just two shots on goal.
With the victory, the Mountaineers are just one of eight schools alive for the NCAA title for the first time since 1981. The Mountaineers will play the winner of No. 3 Georgetown-Providence next week.
