Harvey E. Murray, 72, of Morgantown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at the CCIU in J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Harvey was born Dec. 31, 1948, in Yolyn, son to the late Jesse and Minnie Murray.
Harvey held several jobs along the way but worked as a coal miner and, most notably, as a heavy equipment operator for L.K. Mining. Harvey served in Vietnam for two years and was honorably discharged in 1971. He was a member of the Overflow Church.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carolyn Maxwell Murray; one son, Harvey Murray Jr. and wife Deanna, of Georgia; one daughter, Brenda Murray Canterbury and husband Travis, of Julian; five stepchildren, Bobby (Michiele) Maxwell, Debra (Greg) Neely, Tammy Carder and the late Richard Carder, Sherry (Richard) Malone and Darla (James) Covert, all of Morgantown; five grandchildren, KayCee Mullins, Shelbie Murray, Jamie Murray, Justin Williamson and Luke Williamson; seven step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Gibson; two brothers, the Rev. Jack Murry (Freda) and Estel (Kelly) Murry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by two brothers, Bueal Murry and Ernest Murry; four sisters, Marcella Adkins, Annalee Pack, Dorothy Pack and Kathleen Williams; and mother-in-law, Nancy Bell Long.
The family will receive friends at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and again from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, with the Rev. Jack Murry and Pastor Jeremiah Bostic officiating. Honoring Harvey’s wishes, he will be laid to rest with honors at the WV National Cemetery in Prutnytown, conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and WVANG, Kingwood.
