Darrold Dean Sisler Jr., 77, of Bruceton Mills, passed away on Nov. 19, 2021, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, with his wife and daughters at his side. He was born April 27, 1944.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Margaret Sisler and her partner William Granby, of Centreville, Va.; his daughter, Liz and son-in-law Dan Mace, of Cary, N.C.; his treasured grandchildren, William, Matthew and Annabel; his brother, Jim Sisler and sister Jenny Mayse and their spouses, children and grandchildren; Carolyn’s brothers and sisters and their spouses, children and grandchildren; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Darrold Dean Sisler Sr.; his mother, Genevieve James Sisler; his mother-in-law, Mildred May; his father-in-law, Ralph May; his brother-in-law, Mark May; and many friends from throughout the years. We are confident he is retelling old hunting and fishing stories and causing trouble with them all now.
Butch was a 1962 graduate of Morgantown High and 1966 graduate of Salem University. He spent his summers lifeguarding at Cedar Point Beach in Sandusky, Ohio. He was a teacher and coach for 33 years in Ohio, Michigan, Alaska and West Virginia before retiring in 2004. Butch was passionate about his family, hunting, fishing and Mountaineer football and basketball. Through the years, he learned and practiced many skills associated with his love of hunting and fishing — fly tying, ammo reloading, gun care and repair and more — and he built countless friendships over these shared passions. He shared his love of the outdoors with many lucky friends and family members and made memories along the way. He was always willing to help and lend a hand (or a tool) in any way he could, even if he had no idea what to do. One of his most recent adventures was visiting 48 states, numerous state and national parks and too many quilt shops during his cross country RV adventures with Carolyn.
Butch’s family will be honoring his memory by spending time together with friends, retelling stories of his many adventures and eating West Virginia chili dogs with mustard and onions. Butch has always despised funerals and was insistent he wanted none held for him. To share your memories of Butch, please write them in a card for his family and mail to The Sisler Family, P.O. Box 271, Bruceton Mills, WV 26525, as reading these stories brings them great comfort.
Special thanks to the incredible teams from Preston Memorial HomeCare, Preston Senior Center and the fourth floor and Emergency Department at MonHealth Medical Center for their compassionate care when he and his family needed it most.
