Daley Benson

Daley Russell Benson, 84, of Bruceton Mils (Clifton Mills community), passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1937, in Clifton Mills, a son of the late Benjamin Russell and Rosa Pearl Fike Benson. Dale was a loving husband and father and treasured that part of his life. Dale was an active member of the Clifton Church of the Brethren, and a long-time Bruceton Mills Town Councilman. Dale took such pride in his work and retired after many years of service as a tanker truck driver from BFS. Dale often shared that he loved his job so much he never worked a day in his life. Dale also loved his collection of Ford vehicles, riding his Harley while listening to Fleetwood Mac and his life-long community, where he was honored with the Bruceton Good Neighbor award in 2019.

Dale’s greatest love was his wife, Helen, raising their family and building a home with her. Dale was a jack of all trades and known for his ability to fix anything and everything. You could often find him “tinkering” in the garage or going out of his way to help a friend, neighbor or stranger.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of nearly 62 years, Helen Lucille (Wakefield) Benson; five sons and one daughter: Russell “Rusty” and wife Debbie, of Bruceton Mills, Michael and wife Teresa, of Morgantown, Scotty and wife Heather, of Hickory, N.C., Stacy Livengood and husband Stoney, of Williamsport, Md., Chad and wife Kayla, of Morgantown, and Jeremy, of Bruceton Mills; two sisters, Janet Summers and Elsie Gibson; grandchildren: Shane Benson (Rachel), Amanda Darby (Jim), Abbie Funkhouser (Rob), Brody Livengood, Nash Benson, Delaney Benson, Colin Benson, Felicia Young (Aaron), Brittany Fowler, Shelby Baxter (Gary), Jena Bowser (Wes), Alyssa Stiles (Colton) and Jamie Freeman; 13 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Rosenberger, Betty Belanger and Sarah Lou Dittmore; and brothers Hobert Benson and Robert Benson.

Family and friends will be received at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Friday, Nov. 19, with Pastor Michael Bernard officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Bruceton Mills.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Clifton Church of the Brethren, c/o Teresa Crane, 143 Spiker Road, Bruceton Mills, WV 26525.
