Douglas Miller

The Rev. Douglas Miller, a true man of God born June 9, 1933, and a resident of Morgantown, was welcomed into his Savior’s presence Oct. 17, 2021. Doug’s life was a testament of humble and dedicated service to the Lord and fulfilling of his purpose to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Welcome home good and faithful servant, Matthew 25:23.

Doug grew up on a poultry farm in Binghamton, N.Y. and attended Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y., where he prepared for ministry from 1951-1955, majoring in theology and missions. His ministry stateside included service as senior pastor at four Christian and Missionary Alliance churches: Faith Gospel Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. (1955-57), CMA Church, Morgantown, (1968-85), First Alliance Church, Mansfield, Ohio (1985-89) and Community Alliance Church, Butler, Pa. (1989-95). Doug also spent 12 years in overseas ministry, which included French language study in Paris, France (1957-58); CMA missionaries to Guinea, West Africa, where he was involved in Theological Education by Extension programs, Bible translation in Kpelle language, pastor of International Church, Conakry, Guinea and field mission director (1958-67); and pastor of Hope International Church, Paris France (1995-97). Doug traveled to numerous countries for international ministries in South America and Africa where he led conferences and pastoral retreats. He served three terms on the CMA Board of Managers and one term on Asbury College Board of Trustees.

Doug ended his service working with the Morgantown Chinese CMA Church to develop an integrated community of believers with focused outreach to the intercultural and international groups in the city and on the West Virginia University campus, as well as overseeing the visitation program of the American congregation that included newcomers and hospital and shut-in individuals.

Doug’s hobbies included fishing, photography and leading touring groups abroad as well as spending time supporting and encouraging his grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his cherished wife of 67 years, Edith Rose Miller; daughter, Nicole Suzanne Christman and her husband Chanley Matthew Christman; grandsons, Colin Harold Christman and Dylan Douglas Christman; brother, Richard Miller and his wife Beverly Miller; nephew, Troy Miller; niece, Tanya Pyne and her husband John Pyne; great-niece, Amanda Pyne; great-nephews, Jason and Alex Pyne; and Aunt Beverly Vergason.

Hastings Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Friends and family will be received at CMA Church, 308 Elmhurst St., Morgantown, from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, and visitation will continue at CMA Church, from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at
11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, with the Rev. David Goodin officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
