Daniel Russell Himes,75, of the Whetsell Settlement, died on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at Mon Health Medical Center.
Daniel was born Dec. 30, 1945, in Brookville, Pa., a son of the late James and Olive Jean (Smith) Himes.
Daniel enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 1963 and served faithfully until his retirement in October of 1983.
Daniel was an avid Mountaineer fan. He was a bass master, enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors and adored his time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his faithful dog, Bella.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas (Erin) Himes, of Morgantown, and Dana “D.J.” Himes and Michell Armstrong, of Kingwood; his daughter, Danette “Danie” (Douglas) Snyder, of Kingwood; eight grandchildren: Samantha (J.C.) Cramer, Allyson Parrish, Jenna (C.J.) Felton, Ashlyn Himes, Alex Himes, Leigha Himes, Aiden Himes and Hannah Cartwright; one sister, Norma Jean Park, of Brookville, Pa.; and several nieces and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Dotty Ann (Friend) Himes.
Friends may call at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St., from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, with the Rev. Michael Argabrite officiating. Burial will be in the WV National Cemetery in Grafton.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Daniel’s memory to the Preston County Humane Society, P.O. Box 395, Kingwood, WV 26537 or to the Preston County Animal Shelter, 278 Poor Farm Road, Kingwood, WV 26537.
