WOODSTOCK, Va. — Drew Boczek and Carson Shriver accounted for 189 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in limited action Friday afternoon to spark Clay-Battelle to a 56-0 victory over Massanutten Military Academy.
After Tate Elliott scored on a one yard plunge with still 11:25 left on the first quarter clock, Shriver connected with Matt Gadd on a trick two point conversion pass for an 8-0 Cee-Bees lead.
The Cee-Bee defense held on the ensuing series and Boczek returned a Colonels punt 53 yards to the Massanutten 2-yard line and scored on a 2-yard quarterback sneak on first down. Drew Mercer’s first of five PAT kicks made it 15-0 with still 7:22 left in the opening stanza
Shriver ended the first quarter scoring by taking a first down Boczek handoff and scampering 80 yards for a touchdown. Mercer’s kick made it 22-0
Early in the second quarter, Boczek sparked a short four play scoring drive with designed runs of 12 and 15 yards before hitting sophomore standout Zac Hall for 20 yards and tight end Johnny Arnett with a three yard scoring strike. Mercer’s third PAT pushed the lead to 29-0.
The first half ended with senior reserve Jacob Shriver scoring on a one yard touchdown dive and Mercer’s PAT giving the Cee-Bees a 36-0 lead at intermission.
The third quarter saw Brady Ammons score on a nifty 39 yard run and reserve quarterback JC Spears connect with up and coming junior Adam Kolat on a 25-yard pass and catch. Mercer’s last PAT pushed the count to 49-0 before Braden Coen’s two yard run and Spears’ PAT ended the quarter and the scoring.
Clay-Battelle, ranked 12th in the latest WVSSAC Class A Power Rankings and 10th in this week’s MetroNews Power Index, improves to 6-1 on season setting up a showdown next Friday night at third ranked and unbeaten Cameron.
