Gloria J. Morrison, 90, of Morgantown, formerly of Hobart, Ind. and Mount Pleasant, Pa., passed away Oct. 6, 2021, at the Morgantown Health and Rehabilitation Center. Gloria was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, the daughter of the late Lewis A. and Grace Leach Gaines.
She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of God and superintendent of the Sunday school, a former member of the First Assembly of God Church, Mount Pleasant, Pa., the Christ Community Church, Hobart, Ind., where she served as deaconess, nursery director and co-chairman of women’s ministries and the Harner Chapel, Morgantown.
Gloria was a 1949 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School in Nutterfort, attended Fairmont State College and life long learning programs at St. Vincent College, Latrobe and University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. She was also a member of the Greensburg Friday evening music club. Gloria was formerly employed by the Clarksburg Casket Company, J.C. Penney, Greensburg, a nanny for six different families, teacher’s aide at the How & Why preschool in Hobart, Ind., the American Heart Association, Greensburg, Pa. and as a caretaker for Homestead Ltd., Mount Pleasant, Pa.
Surviving are her daughters, Deborah E. Bair (Richard) and their children, Aaron and Joshua Bair, of Mount Pleasant, Pa., and Melissa Ann Morrison (Willam DeBerry) and their daughter, Brook DeBerry and daughter-in-law, Jean Morrison and her son, Shane, of Latrobe, Pa.; and sisters in Christ, Mary Jane Anderson, of Maryland, and Sandy Eberly (Phillip), of Valpraiso, Ind.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in the First Baptist Church, Clarksburg, William B. Morrison in 1991; sons, Matthew Allen Morrison and Lewis Ray Morrison; and sisters-in-law, Mary Fowler and Mildred McDaniel.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Saloom-Rega Funeral Service, 730 W. Main St., Mount Pleasant, Pa., from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, with the Rev. David Stickley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Joy cemetery in Mount Pleasant, Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Gloria may be made to the American Heart Association 615 S. Main St. Greensburg, Pa. 15601.
