Patricia Ann McCoy, 74, passed away unexpectedly at the home she shared with her daughter in Apex, N.C., on Dec. 10, 2020.
Patty was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Morgantown, the daughter of J.K. McCoy and Mary Ellen Berry McCoy. She spent most of her childhood in Durham, N.C., but, upon the death of her father in 1959, she returned with her family to Morgantown. She attended St. Frances de Sales High School. Upon her graduation in 1964, she attended West Virginia University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education.
Patty taught many different grades at Avella Elementary in Avella, Pa. She found great joy in teaching. She treasured all the friendships she made with the Avella faculty long after her retirement and was most especially thankful for the love and support of “The Card Club” even after life circumstances took her away from Avella.
After many years of marriage, Patty’s independent spirit led her to enjoy living on her own. She loved living close to her daughter but still maintaining her own home and making new friends. Declining health in later years led her to living with her daughter, her granddaughter and Charlie, a Maltese puppy who became her constant companion. In earlier years, she was not an animal lover, but she most definitely loved Charlie.
Patty’s greatest joy was found in her role as mother and grandmother. A talented quilter, she gifted her family with handmade treasures, all of which will now become heirlooms for generations to come.
Patty suffered from several health issues, including dementia. This, of course, caused her great stress and unhappiness. She is finally resting in the peace that a good mother, a devoted grandmother and a dedicated teacher deserves. Knowing that she is, at last, happy and healthy and watching over us from Heaven makes losing her easier for us to bear.
In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by her first grandson, Tyler, and her brother, Jay McCoy, of Charles Town. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Noe, of Apex, N.C.; her son, Todd (Brittany) Noe, of Sunbury, Ohio; her grandchildren, Ethan, Kennedy, Brantlee and Bella; her sister Barbara (George) Sarris, of Morgantown; her sister-in-law, DiAnn McCoy, of Charles Town; and her brother, Danny (Pam) McCoy, of Greensboro, N.C. and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary Peace Garden Mausoleum in Star City, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.
