Gorman Newman

Gorman Camden Newman, 81, of Morgantown, passed unexpectedly of natural causes at his home, on Thursday Sept. 28, 2021. He was born March 17, 1940, in Philippi, son to Meredith and Velvet Dalton Newman.

Gorman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Consolidated Coal Company with 28 years of service.
Gorman was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 10 in Morgantown for more than 27 years. He loved the outdoors and would fish anywhere he could. He had a laugh that would melt you heart and hazel eyes that would often change color.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Arlene Kay Tichenor Newman; daughter, Beth Mariah Fletcher; son, Gorman C. “Buddy” Newman Jr., and wife Linda; one brother, Delmas Newman and wife Mary; and sister, Wilma Hose and husband Mike.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jessica (Zack) Main, Mariah (Kyle) Camp, Shane Newman and Wesley Newman; great-grandchildren, Ben, Axton, Aria, Ryker and Rylin; two nephews, Brian and Steven Hose; one niece, Lisa Pyles, husband Jack and their daughter Amber; and we couldn’t forget his grand-furbabies, Paco and Marley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Brendan Fletcher.

Cremation has been arranged by the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home. Memorial visitation will be held at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8. The evening will conclude with a time of sharing and remembrance service conducted by the Odd Fellows Lodge. His ashes will be interred at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors at a later date.
