Cindy Sue (Uphold) Dalton, 71, of the Kingwood Pike, passed away Sept. 24, 2021, at home with her family.
Cindy was born at home in Kingwood, on Nov. 14, 1949, the daughter of the late Harve and Genevieve (DeBerry) Uphold. She moved to Morgantown after she married the love of her life, the late Donald Troy “Toe” Dalton.
Cindy loved watching “Gunsmoke” and “The Pioneer Woman” and also enjoyed cooking with her grandchildren. She devoted herself to her husband and his love of cars, traveling to car and tractor shows.
Cindy was a Nurse’s Aide at Preston Memorial Hospital and St. Vincent Pallotti Hospital in the 1960s and then worked as a seamstress at Morgan Shirt Factory from 1974 until it closed. She next took a job as a secretary at WVU’s School of Nursing until she retired in 2012.
Cindy is survived by her daughters, Teresa Lynn (Scott) King and Jenny Rebecca (Mike) Ault; grandchildren, Rebecca Ault and Kassey, Trenton and Austin King; three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Haiden and Aubree; sister, Rebecca DeBerry; an aunt, Carolyn “Sue” Bunch; and in-laws, Dana (Douglas) Dalton, Jackie Hart, Barbara Nicholson, Beverly (Kenny) Dalton, the Rev. Francis “Jake” (Patty) Nicholson, Kimilee Uphold and Cindy Uphold.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Troy “Toe” Dalton; brothers, Richard Uphold and sister-in-law and friend Carma Uphold and Tony Uphold Sr.; sister, Judy Shrout and husband Robert Shrout; in-laws, Joe and Irene (McMillen) Dalton; sisters-in-law, Wilma Nicholson and Thelma Dalton; and brothers-in-law, Harold (Hoy) Dalton, Henry (June) Hart and Delmar (Bimbo) Nicholson.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., from noon until the time of the service at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, with the Rev. John Carnes officiating. In accordance with her wishes, she will then be cremated and inurned at Mount Pleasant Cemetery next to her husband.
