Lawrence E. Morris “Pete,” 87, of Granville passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, in Morgantown at Monongalia General Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
Pete was born in Morgantown, to Hannah Mae Owens and Ralph Lawrence Morris on Sept. 21, 1933. He graduated University High School in 1951 and served in the Army. Pete retired from Sterling Faucet in 1996 after more than 37 years of service. He was a sports enthusiast and was actively involved in the Waynesburg High School athletics programs for 35 years. He could always be found at the games or practices.
Pete enjoyed spending time with family and friends more than anything.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob, of Sandusky, Ohio; a nephew, David Morris, of Sandusky, Ohio; and a cousin, Robert Adams, of Mount Morris, Pa., whom he was very close to.
Pete is survived by his sister, Eleanor Lee Donatiello and her husband Freddie, of Youngstown, Ohio; several nieces and one nephew; a second cousin, John Adams and his wife Terri, of Morgantown, who were his caretakers; and numerous other families, friends and neighbors that were a significant part of Pete’s life.
Pete never married or had children of his own but had a family bigger than most. Putting on paper “who this man was and what he accomplished” is difficult but those that knew him understand. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Pete was a selfless giver and even in death continues to give. He chose to donate his body through the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University.
At his request, there will not be a memorial service, however, a celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
Donations may be made in Pete’s honor to Waynesburg High School Athletics or the Alzheimer’s Association.
