MILL CREEK — Carson Shriver rushed for 250 yards and five touchdowns, including the game winner in overtime, as No. 14 Clay-Battelle rallied for a 36-30 win over Tygarts Valley on Friday night.
After Shriver intercepted a pass on the Bulldogs’ OT possession, he scampered 20 yards on the first play from scrimmage on the Cee-Bees’ initial opportunity.
Clay-Battelle (4-1) trailed 30-15 entering the final quarter before Shriver broke loose for a 70-yard score to cut the lead to 30-23 after the conversion pass. Tygarts Valley drove into Cee-Bees’ territory on its following possession but fumbled at the 36 with just under 8 minutes left in regulation.
Shriver’s 6-yard burst with 4:45 left was followed by Drew Mercer’s conversion kick to tie the contest. Tygarts Valley dented the scoreboard on the game’s first play of scrimmage on a 65-yard run by Nate Hulver, who had 176 yards rushing to lead the Bulldogs (2-3).
Touchdown runs of 5 and 43 from Shriver then treated the Cee-Bees to a 15-7 advantage with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. But Tygarts Valley answered on two quick scores from Garrett Gibson, who hauled in a 54-yard catch-and-run touchdown pass from Lucas Bright, then after Gibson recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, he busted loose on a 34-yard run as the Bulldogs led 20-15 at halftime.
A Gibson 27-yard field goal and 81-yard run by Hulver on a third-and-26 play gave Tygarts Valley 15-point edge entering the final quarter.
Clay-Battelle had 301 yards rushing on the ground. Drew Boczek completed 4 of 8 passes for 66 yards.
The Cee-Bees return to action next Friday at home against Hancock (Md.).
