Edward Joseph Stanton Sr., 81, of Ranson, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021. Born March 9, 1940, in Hepzibah, he was the son of the late Mark Francis Stanton and Dona Hudson Stanton.
He was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and various committees. He volunteered with Meals On Wheels of Jefferson County. He was a faithful and loving servant.
He had a successful career in the life insurance industry and represented several prominent companies over 28 years, setting sales records, receiving numerous awards and attending trips and conventions. When he retired, he continued his passion for the public by working for several companies in his community. His work was not about the sale, but about making lifelong relationships with anyone he met, and that he did. He also enjoyed old fashioned conversation, telling a joke, lending a hand, gardening, fishing, rummy, checkers and cutting up with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Hartsell Stanton. He is survived by his two daughters, Kellie (Michael) Reed and Elisa McCoy (Peter Vache); one son, Ed (Shannon) Stanton Jr.; brothers, Francis (Beulah) Stanton and Robert Stanton; and sister, Jean (Jerry) Kohr.
He is loved by his grandchildren, Joseph Ponceroff, Emily McCoy Bish, Kristina Reed, Elizabeth (Austen) Mathews, Kelsea, Kinleigh and Kaylin Stanton and Kylie Spessert (Cadin); and great-grandchildren, Annika, Emeric, Teagan, Alexander, Reagan, Logan and Charleigh.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Dexter Ford and Andrew Stanton; sisters, Martha Harrison and Alverta Wilson; and son-in-law, Michael McCoy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Charles Town Baptist Church, 222 S. Mildred St., Charles Town, WV 25414.
Services will be held at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, with the Rev. Brian Hotaling officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
