A time to be Born
Fred D. “Pappy” Smith, 88, of Morgantown, was born June 17, 1933, in Preston County, to the late Harold D. and Edna Florence (Moran) Smith.
A time to Live and Work
Fred was employed by Kelly Creek Coal Mines in 1951 and retired from Osage #3 Consolidated Coal Co. Local Union 4043 with
35 years of service. Fred’s work ethic was unlike any other. He took great pride in his work and was always ready to help others in anyway he could. Fred and Mary worked as a team in building a life for their family.
A time to Love
Fred married his junior high school sweetheart, Mary Elliott on Dec. 22, 1951. Together they built a family, including son, David Smith; daughter, Vicki R. Smith Blaney; grandchildren, David Scott and David Dillon Smith, Tia Hose Menear and her husband Joseph; great-grandchildren, Levi Alexander Menear and Colt Jameson Menear. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Ruth Allen and Ludmila Smith.
A Time to be Called Home
In the early morning hours of Aug. 25, 2021, Fred was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, with his loving family by his bedside. Those who met Fred at Heaven’s gate include his parents and brother, Harold Junior Smith.
Celebrating the Legacy left behind
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 26, from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service with the Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
