To help give new life to campus trees that have been removed for safety reasons, the West Virginia University Office of Sustainability, the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and the WVU Tree Campus USA committee partnered to host the university’s inaugural lumber sale, which kicked off Friday. It continues from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today at an event tent outside the WVU Creative Arts Center.
The sale provides members of the campus community and the general public the chance to purchase salvaged wood from campus trees for woodworking projects.
The useable wood from several recently removed campus trees has been milled into pieces of lumber and dried for this upcycling opportunity.
Customers will have the option to get their pieces of lumber branded with the Flying WV logo or they may choose to leave their timbers plain.
Pricing for the lumber will range from $1 to $3 per board foot, depending on wood type. Most boards have been milled to roughly six to eight feet.
The sale is cash only, and all proceeds will support continued tree planting and maintenance on campus.
