George Ernest Bright, 90, peacefully passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, in Morgantown. He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Clarksburg.
George was born to the late Percy W. and Jennie M. Bright, of Summersville. He was “Womb Mate” to his late twin brother John Amos Bright, of Roanoke, Va. The twins are survived by their younger brother, William T. Bright, and sister-in-law, Patty Bright, of Summersville.
George was married to Mildred T. Bright, who preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2020. They were married Dec. 27, 1959, in Morgantown, and were together for 60 years.
George is survived by his children, Jennifer Marie Bright, of Winchester, Va., and George Thompson Bright, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; grandchildren, Jack Wade Blazek, of Winchester, Va., and Braedon Thompson Bright, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; and his sister-in-law, Betty Bright, of Roanoke, Va.; along many nieces and nephews across the country.
George graduated from Nicholas County High School and went on to graduate from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science in business and economics. He served in the Army/Airforce and the Army Reserves. Once he married Mildred, he became part of the family businesses: Thompson’s of Morgantown and Morgantown Printing and Binding. He later retired as vice president.
George loved sports and excelled in basketball, playing well into his Army/Airforce days. He enjoyed animals, especially dogs. Many were his loyal companions while he drove his Gravely tractor, doing yard work. He was the best person to engage with to watch a funny movie, listen to all types of music and eventually hum along. George taught his children how to swim, ride bikes, fish and to, most importantly, laugh at themselves.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation services have been provided by Hastings Funeral Home. A private family memorial will take place later this summer.
