MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Morgantown’s 12U Boys CB Ruckus basketball team is in the Palmetto state to compete in the Big Shots Myrtle Beach tournament.
Led by head coach Bogie Boggess, the team has risen to the as the number 1 ranked team in the state and the number 5 team in the country in the Big Shots team circuit power rankings.
According to Boggess, the team holds a very special trait that is uncommon at this level of basketball.
“They’re talented, but they are a very unselfish team. Probably the most appreciative team I’ve ever coached. Super exciting team to watch for sure especially at this age. You don’t see this type of team chemistry at this age on a travel program typically,” he said.
CB Ruckus has gone through the same struggles as any organization this season with COVID-19 protocols affecting practice sessions and the season schedule that will be wrapping up this weekend as opposed to the first half of June. Boggess cited that the biggest challenge in the scheduling difference is working with the families schedules as they usually plan their vacations around the travel team.
The CB Ruckus roster includes Boggess’s son, Swisher Boggess, who has followed his father along through his previous endeavors in the Ruckus program since his infancy and is a reason Boggess created the team.
“It’s exciting. We’ve definitely had to separate the father and son from the coach and player. I tend to be harder on him I think but we’ve gotten to where we understand each other and we’ll talk about it after every game,” Boggess said.
When asked about the standout player of the team, Boggess had no hesitation to mention Parker Watkins, whose father played at Salem University.
“He’s one of those kids who hit their peak early in terms of athleticism; he’s probably a head taller than everybody else and just super skilled, super athletic,” he said.
The team’s high pedigree doesn’t stop there as it also includes Roman Solheim, who is the son of the late 90’s West Virginia University player Brent Solheim.
The CB Ruckus has been taking it one game at a time this season and does not intend on changing their plans for their final tournament as Boggess main goal is to win a couple of games.
“You are playing some of the top teams in the country down here. Big Shots does a great job drawing in high talent so if we come away from this with more wins than losses we’ve achieved our goal down here and we’ve definitely gotten better. Hopefully we all have a great tournament down here,” he said.
The Big Shots Myrtle Beach tournaments begin on July 8 where a battle of top 5 teams will compete as the CB Ruckus will begin play against the number 1 nationally ranked Vizion 2027 at 10 a.m. followed by the number 3 ranked WCBA Elite Blue 2027 at 12 p.m. The games will be available to livestream at BigShot.net.
