MORGANTOWN — A regional community job fair is coming to Morgantown in an effort to help those who may be impacted or laid off due to the Morgantown Mylan plant closure.
“We’re not in the job fair business, but we are in the community business,” said Frank Vitale, president and CEO of Forge Business Solutions and Morgantown Area Partnership Workforce Development Committee chair. “Now more than ever, we need to step up and help these families.”
The event will be held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. July 8 at the Marriott Waterfront Place Hotel. It is hosted by the Morgantown Area Partnership and Forge Business Solutions, with support from the WVU Career Services Center and Chambers College of Business and Economics.
Free parking will be provided by the hotel, and the event is free to attend.
Vitale said the fair plans to host around 40 employers, mainly within the manufacturing field. Complimentary registration is still available to employers who wish to attend.
Although the event is geared toward helping Mylan plant workers find employment, all in the community are welcome to stop by. From jobs that require college and advanced degrees to those requiring skilled labor and general labor-type jobs, there is something available for everyone, and job seekers are encouraged to bring along a resume.
In addition to manufacturing companies, employers in fields such as hospitality, banking and insurance, along with WVU Medicine, Mon Health Medical Center and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, will be in attendance.
“Folks will have choices, certainly, especially if they’re wanting to make a career change,” Vitale said. “There’ll be a variety of different industries represented at the event.”
The Mylan oral solid dose manufacturing facility in Morgantown is set to close July 31, eliminating 1,500 jobs, according to parent-company Viatris. As the closure approaches, many long-time employees of the facility are left uncertain of how the future will look.
Through events like the community job fair, organizers hope to provide opportunities to keep Morgantown residents living and working within the community.
“They are here. They are members. They are residents of our community,” said Russell Rogerson, president and CEO of the Morgantown Area Partnership. “I really believe it’s a community responsibility to do what we can to support all of our residents and all of our companies, so that we have a continuing growing economy.”
