James “Jim” Hugh Koon, 67, of Westover, returned to be with the Lord on June 22, 2021. Jim was born in Morgantown, on May 26, 1954, to Mary C. “Lottie” Koon and the Rev. George David Koon Jr.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Marianne. Jim is survived by his only son, Jamie and wife Lindsey; sisters, Debbie and Becky, and brothers David, John and Paul; grandchildren, Frankie and Dottie; along with numerous nieces, nephews and various extended family members.
After sharing a childhood with his six brothers and sisters with a maximum amount of music and orneriness, Jim attended Davis and Elkins college after a debilitating injury to his shoulder due to a mining accident. After attaining his A.S. in accountancy Jim moved to Houston, where he worked in the oil and gas industry for five years. After this time, he created Tax Professionals Inc., which served thousands of taxpayers over its 22 years of existence. Letting life take him where it would, Jim ended up back in Morgantown, where he succumbed to internal injuries due to a heart attack.
Jim was a lifelong lover of Christ, Donald Duck, lighthouses and music. Serving as vocalist and drummer with The Gospel Singing Koon family, Jim always found solace in a traditional hymn, gospel or just a good old fashioned country song.
In honoring Jim’s wishes, McCulla Funeral Home has provided cremation services and a private celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to McCulla Funeral Home 770 Fairmont Road Morgantown, WV 26501 to help with the family’s funeral expenses.
