West Virginia adds 4-star QB Nicco Marchiol for 2022 recruiting class

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — West Virginia Day has come and passed, but there’s still plenty of room for celebration across the hills of the Mountain State when it comes to the recruiting trail.

That’s because the Mountaineers have landed their quarterback in the 2022 class and it’s a big one.

Chandler (Az.) Hamilton quarterback Nicco Marchiol committed to WVU over fellow finalists Arizona State and Michigan State giving the Big 12 Conference program a key piece to the recruiting class.

Marchiol, 6-foot-3, 230-pounds, had previously been pledged to Florida State but backed off that once the dead period ended in June and all three of those schools received official visits.

WVU seized momentum after a very strong visit weekend June 11-13 and the Rivals.com four-star prospect elected to end things and commit to the program.

The Mountaineers first extended a scholarship offer in late May, but the connection quickly grew between Marchiol, and the coaching staff spearheaded by quarterbacks coach Sean Reagan and head coach Neal Brown.

Those ties proved critical in his decision-making process along with his visit to campus in order to see what Morgantown was all about and his overall fit.

Marchiol is the first four-star quarterback commitment according to Rivals.com since David Sills selected the program in 2015 and is a significant boost momentum wise to the 2022 class.

Outside of the school mentioned above, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, TCU, LSU, Georgia and a long list of other programs had extended scholarship offers to the signal caller.

Marchiol has an ideal frame for the quarterback position and displays impressive pocket presence and awareness. Possesses a quick release and demonstrates the ability to go through his progressions, while also showcasing the ability to use his legs to pick up yards.

Originally from Colorado, Marchiol is expected to immediately move into a recruiting role with WVU as he will try to attract more talent to join him in Morgantown as the program continues to build momentum on the trail.

The eighth commitment in the 2022 cycle, Marchiol is expected to be the lone player at quarterback for the Mountaineers and it’s a major pickup for Brown and company for several reasons.

The 2022 recruiting class is starting to come together in a big way and adding Marchiol to the mix could be the final push that the group needs to pick up even more heading into the summer.
