The Morgantown area and West Virginia as a whole are offering plenty of Pride Month celebrations, events and activities throughout the month of June to enable LGBTQ+ community members to embrace their identities and acknowledge their history.
Locally
The West Virginia University LGBTQ+ Center will put on a Drag Bingo at 7 p.m. Friday in the Mountainlair Ballroom. The event is hosted by Tillie Gags and light snacks will be provided.
The WVU LGBTQ+ Center will also host a showing of “Queer Genius” at 6:30 p.m. June 17 in the Gluck Theatre at the Mountainlair. The film will be preceded by an introduction from filmmaker Chet Pancake.
Registration is required to attend both the Drag Bingo and the film. Otherwise, the events are free and open to anyone interested in attending.
On Saturday, Morgantown Pride will work in collaboration with Morgantown Art Party and Art Bar to present a Pride concert and drag show during this weekend’s Arts Walk.
The first half of the day’s events will commence at noon at Morgantown Art Party, 218 Walnut St. The daytime segment is open to the public and free of charge.
The nighttime events, referred to as Arts Walk After Dark, will start at 8 p.m. at Art Bar, 268 High St. There will be a $5 cover charge to attend the evening show.
On June 27, Morgantown Pride will host a Pride picnic and hike at Coopers Rock State Forest.
Across the state
Also taking place Saturday are the Beckley Pride Festival and the Huntington Pride and Harmony House Pride Pancake breakfast. The breakfast will take place from 8-11 a.m. at Central Christian Church, 1202 5th Ave, Huntington.
On Sunday, Huntington Pride’s Drag Me to Brunch event will undergo a relaunch followed by a picnic from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Ritter Park Amphitheater. A resource fair will also be held.
On June 26, Pride in the Park will take place at the Parkersburg City Park bandshell, 1920 Park Ave., Parkersburg. The event is hosted by OUT MOV.
Also on June 26, Berkeley Springs Pride hosts a Pride Picnic in the Park at Berkeley Springs State Park, 2 Washington St., Berkeley Springs. The event will run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
