Janice Eileen Helmick, 75, died on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown. She was born Aug. 9, 1945, in Morgantown, a daughter to Ira Merle and Pauline Murray Watkins.
Janice attended Morgantown High School and later worked as a sales associate at J.C. Penny’s department store.
After her retirement, she worked with the government, administering aptitude tests to high school students.
The family will never forget Janice providing for others and putting the needs of others before her own. She could not simply cook for just one person. She would prepare meals for entire families. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and bingo. Her generosity will be missed by so many.
Janice is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, William “Bill” Helmick; one son, James “Jimmy” Helmick (Kelley), of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Ira “Steve” Watkins (Joann), of Springfield; half sister, Donna Jean Creech, of Big Stone Gap, Va.; two grandchildren, Brian and Gabriele; nieces, Michelle Puffenberger (Gregg), of Raleigh, N.C., Stephanie Malcolm (Brian), of Springfield; special niece and BFF Diana Canale (August); and two great-nephews, Anthony Puffenberger and Zachary Malcolm. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Pauline, and one brother, Raymond Charles Lemmon.
The family will receive friends at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, until the time of services at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at the Summers Cemetery, Summer School Road.
Guests will be required to properly wear a face covering, socially distance from other households and limit their time to no more than 15 minutes.
