Ellen Ammons

Ellen Marie Ammons, 79, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Oct. 30, 1941, in Waynesburg, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Russell Golden and Ethel Lillian (Schooley) Eddy.

Ellen was retired from Weis Markets after more than 30 years of service. She was an instructor at the YMCA for the arthritis swim class for about 10 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Antique Tractor Club, Golden Bulldogs and Church of Christ at Longmeadow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Larry Ammons, on July 13, 1997.

Ellen is survived by one son, Devin Ammons; two sisters, Kay Storey and Karen Wright; one adopted brother, Richard Eddy; and one grandson, Nathaniel Ammons.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Danain Ammons in 2005 and Darrin Ammons in 2021; two sisters, Sylvia Eddy and Lola Ammons; one brother, Lester Eddy; and one grandson, Blaine Ammons.

The funeral service will be held at Daybrook Church of Christ, Daybrook, at noon, Saturday, May 29. Evangelist Steve Snider will officiate. Interment will be in Daybrook Cemetery, Daybrook. Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md., from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 27, and one hour prior to service at the church.
