With the bad rap that school lunches get, it’s easy to forget that school cooks are just that — cooks. And when they aren’t limited to a restricted and approved menu, they can create some truly delicious dishes.
Monongalia County Schools’ cooks had a chance to flex their culinary muscles during the pandemic. They contributed their best recipes to be published in the Quarantine Cookbook.
Proceeds from the book benefit the Scott’s Run Settlement House, which provides a backpack feeding program as well as a food pantry and a senior food box program. So far, the cookbook’s sales have allowed Mon Schools to give the Settlement House a check for $1,000.
We love to see the way community members step up to help one another, especially in times of hardship.
If you’d like to do your part to help — and get a collection of new recipes to boot — you can order a copy of the Quarantine Cookbook for $5. Call the Mon County Schools Central Office at 304-291-9210, ext. 1525.
When The Dominion Post followed up with Deputy Superintendent Donna Talerico about the book’s availability, she told us, “We still have some on the shelf, and we can always make more copies.”
