State Police arrest 2 at Appalachian Hotel

KINGWOOD — Two Rowlesburg residents were charged with possession of a controlled substance Saturday.

Andrew Plum and Katherine Jones were arrested at the Appalachian Hotel by West Virginia State Police after a call was made about a disturbance.

“They (Plum and Jones) checked in for one night,” Beth Peddicord, one of the owners of the hotel, said. “But they had brought enough stuff for a week.”

She said when the couple arrived, there were people in the arcade waiting for them to check in.

Peddicord said the police were called when the two began acting in a suspicious manner.

“When the State Police arrived, they asked them (Plum and Jones) if they had drugs. They said no, they were only celebrating,” Peddicord said.

She said a K9 unit was brought in to assist with the search and the dog gave several positive alerts.

“They found heroin, fentanyl, several knives and a lot of other things,” Peddicord said. “It was unbelievable.”

She said among the other items were three cans of Narcan.

“Someone dying and bringing them back — hopefully we saved some lives,” she said about the arrest. “They were trying to sell narcotics out of our hotel.”

Peddicord said the hotel is a family friendly establishment and she does not allow criminal activities on the premises.

“This is not happening in our hotel,” she said. “I want people to know I run a respectable hotel.”
