Billie Carol Leach, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at her residence. She was born in Morgantown, on June 2, 1933, the daughter of the late William Bartell and Marion Virginia (Chenoweth) Biser.
Billie graduated from Morgantown High School in 1951 and married her late husband William (“Bill”) Harvey Leach in 1952. The newlyweds initially settled in Morgantown, but Bill’s work took them and their three daughters to Ravenswood, and then Woodsfield, Ohio. After Bill’s untimely passing in 1967, Billie returned to Morgantown with her daughters and attended Morgantown Business College. Upon her graduation, Billie worked in the Admissions and Records Office at West Virginia University until her retirement in 1995. During her retirement, Billie enjoyed shopping, dining out and spending cherished time with many friends, especially Rita Hawkins, her best friend since junior high school.
Before her health declined, Billie was an avid gardener and talented seamstress. She especially enjoyed sharing flowers and plants from the garden at her home on Hillcrest Street and sewing Christmas decorations and tree skirts for her family and friends. If you were fortunate enough to know Billie, you knew that her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and probably heard her say on many occasions that “her cup runneth over.” She would eagerly pick up the phone or mail letters to share the accomplishments or photos of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with others. Billie was also known for her great sense of humor and generosity, traits especially appreciated by her grandchildren and friends. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Billie is survived by her three daughters, Virginia “Ginny” Gross and husband Gary, Linda Click and husband Danny and Laura Rockis and husband Jim; nine grandchildren, Eric Eschenmann, Ryan Gross and wife Courtney, Amy Rich and husband Kevin, Erin Burrell and husband Darnell, Beth Bossio and companion Anthony Straface, Adrienne Blosser and husband Jared, Jason Gross and wife Beth, Justin Click and William Rockis; and eight great-grandchildren, Morgan and Logan Gross, Nolan Rich, Jackson and Nora Burrell, Hunter Kurth and Grant and Benjamin Gross. She is also survived by a brother, David William Biser and companion Tammy Akers, and a niece, Kimberly Biser.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Edward Biser.
Billie’s family would like to thank Richard and Morgan Wood for the care and compassion they provided to Billie in her final years.
In keeping with Billie’s wishes, Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation arrangements. At a later date, family and close friends will gather for a private graveside memorial service. To celebrate Billie’s life, her family and close friends will also join together to share a meal and their fond memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics West Virginia, 3055 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane, WV, 25526, or the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250.
