Franklin Howard Nethken, 74, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, surrounded by his family. Frank was born in Morgantown, on April 29, 1946, a son of the late Martha Evelyn and Arthur Charles Nethken.
Frank was a Vietnam Army Veteran and served in both the 173rd and 82nd Airborne. While in the Army he received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Parachutist Wings, the Vietnam Service Ribbon and numerous other medals. Frank was a coal miner and retired from Consol Coal Co.
Frank is survived by his son, Christopher Nethken and wife Natalie, of Flemington; daughter, Martha “Missy” Nethken Adams and husband George, of Abbeville, S.C.; son, Franklin Nethken and wife Cheryl, of Greer, S.C.; three grandchildren, Addison Nethken, Luke Adams and Emma Adams; and two sisters, Della Dalton and Patty Kerns.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis “Sue” Nethken, and brothers, Rocky Nethken, Art Nethken, Harry Nethken and Clifford Nethken.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to the Taylor County Senior Citizens, 52 Trap Springs Rd., Grafton, WV, 26354.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd., Westover, from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 5. Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Graveside military services provided by Westover VFW Post No. 9916 and the WVANG Funeral Honors. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing practiced.
