BRIEF: Mon school district closes out week with more COVID

A total of 37 students were placed into quarantine Friday after two positive COVID cases were recorded in Monongalia County’s school district, Superintendent Eddie Campbell Jr. said.

Twenty-three of the newly quarantined are from Mountaineer Middle School, he said. They were isolated after a classmate tested positive.

The positive case of a student at Westwood Middle put 11 students into quarantine – plus three more at adjoining Skyview Elementary, the superintendent reported.

No other quarantines of teachers or staffers at the above schools was necessary, Campbell said.

The afternoon news came at the same time district employees and select family members were lining up for the Moderna vaccine at Morgantown High School.
