Multiple people were taken to the hospital and traffic was disrupted on Interstate 68 because of vehicle crashes Friday afternoon.
The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m, on in the westbound lane of I-68 in front of Planet Fitness.
There were two separate crashes involving four vehicles, Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jimmy Lipcomb said. Three people were taken to the hospital with injures that did not appear to be serious.
All four vehicles were in the median: A Chevrolet Silverado with heavy front-end damage, a Toyota Carolla with front-end damage, a Subaru Impreza with minor rear-end damage and white Subaru of unspecific model. That Subaru had very severe rear-end damage and emergency crews cut the back driver’s side door off to extract a patient.
Both lanes of I-68 were restricted to one lane and the westbound was closed for cleanup.
When The Dominion Post left the scene at about 4:50 p.m. traffic was backed up to beyond the bridge over Cheat Lake.
