Sandra Kay Gifford, 59, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, after a battle with breast cancer.
Sandy was born in Morgantown, where she remained her whole life. She spent every Sunday at the flea market and when she wasn’t there, she could be found knitting, sewing, gardening, reading, collecting dolls and donating the things she made. She was a devout Apostolic and in her last year of life, she made masks for the local nursing home. Her caring nature and love for her family was what she was known for and will live on in her legacy.
She met Michael Gifford in 1980 and three months later, on Sept. 16, they married. Over the next 40 years, they raised 16 children together and welcomed 27 grandchildren. Sandy was the proudest of her family, considering it her greatest achievement. Although her passing was unexpected, her lifelong dream of going to the beach in Florida was fulfilled just nine months before. She was dearly loved and her absence is a devastating loss for the Gifford family. Her memory will live on through each of their lives.
She is predeceased by her grandparents, Arthur and Pearl Hunt, who raised her, and her father, Jim Nicholson.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Gifford; her brother, Jimmy Hunt; her sister, Pam Jones; her mother, Joyce Hunt-Romito; her aunt, Mary Hunt Liston; and her
16 children: Jamie, Kristy, Shawn, Jason, Stephnie, Scott, Mandi, Casey, Tristen, Courtney, Cody, Stacey, Jessie, Jessica, Jasmine and Raven; as well as her 27 grandchildren, all of whom she adored. “We love you, Mom.”
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from
3 p.m. Friday, March 5, until the time of the private family service at 7 p.m. with Pastor Phyllis Agnew officiating. A graveside service will be held at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens at
10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6.
Although guests are invited to come visit, it is required, per the governor and CDC pandemic guidelines, that all visitors wear face masks and practice social distancing.
