James Carson

James Matthew “Matt” Carson was born Dec. 13, 1985, and grew up in Cheat Canyon Park, where he was one of three Matts, all roughly the same age.

Growing up, his childhood was one filled with adventures year round. Matt attended Cheat Lake Elementary and Junior High, followed by University High, where he was fortunate to be with the wonderful Class of 2004. He played ice hockey and was a member of the University High Golf Team. Aside from team sports, he loved water skiing, snowboarding and his favorite, skateboarding.
His aptitude for art provided him an opportunity to attend the Governor’s Academy for Art at West Liberty before graduating from High School. He attended Montana State University and West Virginia University where he studied graphic design and graduated with honors. He studied at Pratt Institute for Art in New York City, as well as attended a study abroad program in Italy before taking his first job. He was most recently employed with Xtech, headquartered in New Jersey.

Aside from web development and graphic design, he had a strong affinity for cars, working on them and attending rallies with friends. He loved animals, but most especially his West Virginia brown dog, Petey. He carried a smile and a big heart everywhere he went, and his ability to make people laugh was well known, along with his strong hugs. He was always there to lend a helping hand or listening ear. He loved life and was grateful for his.

Matt passed away Feb. 25, 2021, and is survived by his brothers, Justin and Michael Carson; his mother, Margie Carson; father, Dr. John Carson; and son, Crew Montgomery, born May 8, 2020.
