House fire determined to be arson

A fire at a rental home early Friday morning was arson and a reward is being offered for information.

The Morgantown Fire Department responded to the fire at 452 Protzman Street, a three-story rental house owned by Blue Sky Realty, at 1:16 a.m.

There was a small fire on the outside siding of the home and was brought under control in less than 10 minutes, according to the department.

Chief Mark Caravasos said people were inside at the time but were able to get out and there were no injuries. Smoke inside an apartment set off an alarm and alerted the occupant.

The fire caused about $1,500 in damages. Caravasos said besides the exterior damage there was some soot inside.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by arson. Caravasos said there is no other reason for the fire to have been where it was with nothing to start it.

A reward of $5,000 is being offered for information on the incident that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information should call the Morgantown Fire Marshal’s Office at 304-284-7486.
