John Allen Britton, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday Feb. 21, 2021, at his home. The son of the late Howard J. and Josephine Zinn Britton, he was born on Aug. 9, 1942, in Morgantown.
John graduated from Morgantown High School, Class of 1960, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, John returned to Morgantown and met, then married, his wife of 54 years, Ellen Stuchell Britton, who survives him.
John was a 54 year life member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters U.A. Local 152. After his retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, when not tending the family farm. In addition to his wife, Ellen Britton, John is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Britton and wife Angela and Christopher Britton and wife Heather; two granddaughters, Ayla and Gillian; and two brothers, Larry Britton and wife Carolyn and Kenneth Britton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Bill; grandparents, Hays and Frankie Zinn; and his maternal uncle, Hubert Zinn, who raised him.
The family will receive friends at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, and again from noon on Friday until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating.
