Karen Sue Murray, 72, passed away Wednesday Feb. 10, 2021, at her residence with family by her side. She was born on June 10, 1948, in Morgantown, daughter of the late Wayne and Loretta June (Greathouse) Nicholson.
Karen graduated from Valley High School. Karen worked at Sterling Faucet, Preston County Sheriff’s Office, Preston County Tax Office, Heartland of Preston County and Company’s Comin. She loved gardening, working with her flowers and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, which she learned from her mother and was a volunteer on the Preston County Election Board.
Karen is survived by her two sons, Daniel Scott and Tammi Murray, of Grafton, and John Wayne and Jennifer Murray, of Tunnelton; seven grandchildren, Hannah Murray, Heather Murray, Seth Murray, Sam Murray, Olivia Murray, Madison Murray and Joules Murray; two sisters, Charlotte and Alan Bennett, of Morgantown; Ellen and Herschel “Herk” Kessler, of Elkins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wanda and Liz King, of Stevensburg, Arnold and Sarah Bolyard, of Sinclair, Jerry and Norma Murray, of Sinclair, John and Penny Murray, of Marquess, and Sandra Murray, of Fellowsville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Vester and Ona Pearl Jenkins Greathouse; paternal grandparents, Lester and Goldie Nicholson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary Murray; and step-grandmother, Zeda Greathouse.
Per Karen’s wishes, she will be cremated. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to WV Caring, In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to WV Caring P.O. Box 760 Arthurdale. Bolyard Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Murray family.
