James A. “Jake” Cress, 77, passed away Tuesday Feb. 9, 2021, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1943, in Dellslow, a son of the late Clarence and Maggie Louise Everson Cress.
James was most recently employed as a bus driver for Mountain Line Transit until his retirement in 2009. In his spare time, Jake enjoyed tinkering in his building, working on lawnmowers and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid animal lover, and cared for his many dogs, chickens, ducks and pigs.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 35 years, Linda Dudley Cress; his children, Kandy Jackson and companion Steve, Shelly Jackson, Dennis Cress and wife Kat, Sandy Tichenor and husband Dale, Doug Cress and wife Gina, Matthew Cress, Michael Cress, Sheila Elliot, Rick Morris and wife Ashley, Nathaniel Morris and wife Vonda and Rebecca Cress and fiancé Derrick Kerns; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; and Don Poling, who Jake considered a brother, and his wife Betty.
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Cress, and a sister, Eva Mae Bonifay.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jake’s home health nurse Montana Hershman, for all the care and compassion shown to Jake and the family.
